However, I am appalled and irritated with the amount of typographical errors in a book that cost me $100. There's an error on every other page! I've encountered at least five just this evening. The Big Book of Small Business: You Don't Have to Run Your Business by the Seat of Your Pants ReviewAs a new small business owner, I've devoured several books written on the topic of starting a business. Most have a few good kernels of knowledge in them somewhere, but none are as consistently helpful as this book.
The author, Tom Gegax, has a great deal of personal experience starting and growing companies, most of which seem to be in the tire industry. If you're business is not merchandise-based, but service-based, this book is still very pertinent. Topics like vision and values are discussed, as well as some interesting marketing ideas. Adapting the information into a business plan for a Web company was easy and enjoyable.
Be prepared for Mr. Gegax's very zealous approach to business. It borders on fanatical at times. If you shy away from corporate structures due to their "you must believe" mindset, you'll flinch a few times while reading, but it's still excellent counsel.
From a tactile standpoint, this book is great. The binding is well constructed, and the print is slightly large and easy to read.
I cannot recommend this book enough if you're starting your own business. Double that recommendation if you own your own business and need a shot of inspiration.

Work in the 21st Century: An Introduction to Industrial and Organizational Psychology ReviewI reviewed this textbook for an undergraduate class I am teaching. I/O psychology is a broad and complex topic area, making it difficult to find a textbook that is good in each subtopic area. Landy and Conte do a great job in all areas by being fairly broad and up to date. They also do a good job of presenting the material from the perspective of the current trends in applied I/O psychology.
I would recommend this text for undergraduate courses and graduate courses too (with supplemental articles added by the instructor). The instructor support materials are a good starting point for creating lectures, exercises, and assignments. The text is student friendly with an excellent layout, good sidebars, and "module" summaries after subtopics within a chapter (making it easy to skip a subtopic).Work in the 21st Century: An Introduction to Industrial and Organizational Psychology Overview
